St. Patrick's Day

What a beautiful day it was today---sunny and 73! Nate, Evan, our good friend Amalie, and I went downtown to take part in the St. Patrick's Day festivities. It was Evan's first firefighter gathering. He was great and enjoyed being outside in his new stroller...taking everything in.

Evan had another "first" today...he's started to blow bubbles with his spit/drool! It is the cutest thing!

A ticklish Evan

I was undressing Evan from his pajamas, and as I was taking his onesie off, my hand was touching his arm pit. He busted out into this huge giggly laugh. I tickled him again, and he kept on going...it was the cutest thing!

Cereal is a hit!

Evan is a little over 4 1/2 months old, and we thought we'd try cereal again. He's been noticing (our) food more each day. This evening, he was in a pretty good mood, playful, etc...so we made up a little rice cereal mixed with breast milk. I wasn't sure how this was going to go, especially since the last time he was disgusted with the whole thing. He didn't really know what to do with the first few bites (ended up on his bib and hands), but once he did, he LOVED it. He ate the whole bowl I had made up for him (well, part of it went on his bib...hehehe). After each bite, he would suck on his fingers to savor the taste...too cute! His next pediatrician appointment is next week, and we'll find out what the next step is :)

Evan finally rolled over for his mommy!

Evan has rolled over since mid-January...for Nate and Grammy Pat, but never for Mommy. Last night, we were playing on his activity gym and doing "tummy time". He eased onto his side, hung out for a little bit, then flipped to his back! Yay!!!

I'm not a tree hugger, but...

...we decided to cloth diaper Evan. I never thought I'd be doing this, but after trialing them and lots of research, we decided to give it a go (we still plan to use "sposies" when traveling or when Evan has diarrhea...gross, I know). When people think of cloth diapering, they think of the old-fashioned white cloth diapers that you have to fold up and fasten with pins. Well, things have changed (thank goodness!). We're using the bumGenius 3.0s, a one-size pocket diaper that "grows" with Evan as he grows...good up until about 35 pounds. The "pockets" are stuffed with 1 or 2 inserts that absorb his pee. The diaper is fastened by a velcro material. Cleaning them is a breeze too!

Top reasons for the switch to cloth:
1. Economical
2. More gentle on Evan's sensitive butt
3. Can be used for our next baby
4. They are too darn cute
5. Better for the environment
6. Fewer "blow-outs", if any
